Coffee with the Caps, Monday October 4

MLS: San Jose Earthquakes at Vancouver Whitecaps FC Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Good Monday morning Caps fans, hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend and enjoyed one of the most comprehensive Whitecaps performances we’ve seen all season.
The hero of the hour was of course Brian White, whose transfer I’ve long since eaten crow about. He is simply put the most in-form striker in the league right now and if he was on a bigger market team he would be the toast of MLS. For now, however, he will be our little secret.

The narrative around Lucas Cavallini has changed so much that I don’t think anyone is particularly concerned by his call up to the Canadian national team. White has a clear rapport with the other attacking players in a way that Cava has not yet been able to establish.

In hindsight, it should have been clearer that White was going to come good with better service. He was doing the little things right early on and was showing that he could do what Cava has struggled with: dropping deep and making passes. White could have had an assist or two to add to his hat trick Saturday and it is no accident.

It remains to be seen whether he can propel the Caps past the tougher competition which lies ahead. But with the Galaxy continuing to struggle, the door is firmly open for this team. Between White and Florian Jungwirth, who again looked excellent Saturday, the front office has finally put the team in a position to succeed. Let’s buckle up and see how it goes.
