Guess the Starting XI - Match #4 - Toronto FC

New, 15 comments

It is round 2 of Toronto vs Vancouver. Will this outcome be better? Pretty hard for it to be any worse!

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Toronto FC Kevin Sousa-USA TODAY Sports

As is routine for every match, we have our regular Guess the Starting XI and Final Score contest. Let’s see how good you are at getting into the manager’s head and predicting how the game will turn out. In addition, we will have monthly, fun, bonus prediction categories, such as yellow cards, substitutions, goal scorers, etc.

How Scoring is Determined

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE half-an-hour prior to the lineup being officially announced, which means 1.5 hours before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. Receive 1 bonus point for correctly predicting 10 starters. Receive 3 bonus points for correctly predicting 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw.
  • You receive 1 point for correctly guessing each team’s final score. Receive 1 bonus point for correctly guessing both teams final score (for a total of 3).
  • That means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 22 points!
  • After each match, I will tally the scores and update the standings, which will be posted with the following match’s prediction article. I will typically post three sets of standings. First, the results from the previous match. Second, the monthly standings. Third, the first/second half standings (with your worst two match predictions removed).

Match Review and Preview - Toronto FC

Well, that was ugly wasn’t it! Seems like none of us predicted it could be that bad. But, many of us predicted that Vancouver would lose. Is that a consolation prize? I can’t tell these days. Congratulations to newcomer Mykvechkin who took the match title with 18 points. Three people were smart (?) enough to predict no Whitecaps goal, so Mykvechkin, GreyHouseEffect, and Isabelt each received the bonus three points...and the top three spots in the match rankings.

As I noted last match, the first two matches of the season will be added into the totals for the upcoming matches. We will also be having a ‘Canada Only’ contest, which will comprise the eight (not four as I said last match) Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver matches, plus the Canadian Championship final should the Caps make it that far (they won’t). Back to the overall standings though. Westsider13 has a nice five-point lead over AmandaC (45 to 40) with a logjam for third. Depending on how many matches get played we will remove each participant’s one or two lowest match totals (likely two as per usual).

On to Friday’s match. I must say, it is getting difficult to watch these matches. Now that I am not having to write match reports I can’t say I am watching that closely. In fact, instead of watching the LIVE Caps second half last night I was watching a YouTube video. Yeah, something I could pause and wait to watch I felt was more entertaining than Caps. Regardless, time to put out another one of these. Hopefully this contest gives you something to root for during matches...even if it is hoping TFC scores three, as I did, to get me that one-point for score prediction!

Apparently players like Godoy and Milinkovic should be available for the Caps on Friday. Hopefully we see some changes, but at times I feel like MDS is trying to put out as crappy of a lineup as possible. Granted, it isn’t like he has a lot of options. But Gutierrez as a winger? Come on!

Toronto is likely to win this one again, but knowing the Caps they will somehow squeak out a draw or weird victory...because...why not! Let’s see how many of us still have hope and predict that Caps victory.

As with Tuesday’s match, the bonus category will be time of Whitecaps first goal. We will use the typical 15-minute intervals 0-<15, 15-<30, 30-45+, 45-<60, 60-<75, 75-90+. Also, if you believe the Caps won’t score, you need to write no scorer (or something like that).

Good luck everyone!
