Good morning Caps fans, hopefully you all have spent the weekend social distancing and washing your hands as much as possible.
Obviously the COVID-19 outbreak continues to heighten, both in the U.S. and Canada and around the world. Obviously there is no soccer outside of in a few isolated countries to watch. These two sentences made me realize I’m going to have to think outside the box on this column going forward.
So later this week look for the second round of Coffee with the Caps Trivia Bonanza: Coronavirus edition. Have other ideas for ways I can entertain myself (and you all) without any live soccer? Hit me up in the comments.
I’m in the minority of people not yet working remotely thanks to the poor planning of Pennsylvania state government. And there is a subsection of brave workers who will be unable to work from home at all throughout this (medical professionals, cleaning services, etc.). Others will lose their jobs, temporarily or otherwise.
It is imperative then that we come together as a community, virtual or in-person, to support our friends, neighbors and co-workers. This blog is here for y’all as part of that.
Once home, I was thinking of figuring out some FIFA or Football Manager related content to pass the time—I’m also soliciting ideas on that to give us some #content for the site.
From a sporting perspective, this break might actually be of some use to the Caps. While this is obviously a secondary concern, some sort of layoff would give the squad time to get healthy, fit and legally able to work in Canada.
So if you’re bored and need something to do, just imagine what the team might look like in 2 or 3 months when play resumes—use your imagination, it can’t hurt right?
Or just play some Connect Four, that also works:

The Caps next take on Hull City, presumably as recompense for giving us David Milinkovic. In the meantime, here are some links to chew over:
Shameless Self Promotion
We have the blow by blow of a dramatic Caps win from Saturday—it remains to be seen if the Caps’ board game prowess will win back any season ticket holders
Best of the Rest
Liga MX, one of the last remaining leagues still in action, has halted play following Sunday’s games due to the coronavirus. The Australian A-League has announced they will play behind closed doors
In a heartening gesture, the Caps donated matchday food to the Vancouver Food Bank—a worthy organization that could use your support as well right now
The CDC has urged the cancellation of gatherings of over 50 people for eight weeks, a significant change in its recommendations. It could also be a telling sign for when we’ll see live sports again
MLS is trying to figure out a way to help part-time and hourly workers for stadiums and teams
Sorry for the short one today folks—I’ll see you all back here Friday with some trivia and hopefully some more positive updates
