Guess the Starting XI - Match #15 - LAFC

As is routine for every match, we have our regular Vancouver Whitecaps Guess the Starting XI and Final Score contest. Let’s see how good you are at getting into the manager’s head and predicting how the game will turn out. In addition, we will have monthly, fun, bonus prediction categories, such as yellow cards, substitutions, goal scorers, etc.

How Scoring is Determined

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE half-an-hour prior to the lineup being officially announced, which means 1.5 hours before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. Receive 1 bonus point for correctly predicting 10 starters. Receive 3 bonus points for correctly predicting 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw.
  • You receive 1 point for correctly guessing each team’s final score. Receive 1 bonus point for correctly guessing both teams final score (for a total of 3).
  • That means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 22 points!
  • After each match, I will tally the scores and update the standings, which will be posted with the following match’s prediction article. I will typically post three sets of standings. First, the results from the previous match. Second, the monthly standings. Third, the first/second half standings (with your worst two match predictions removed).

Match Review (Real Salt Lake) and Preview (LAFC)

Fine, let’s go with logic instead of my gut this match. FINE. Ugh, what did I do to myself last match! - AmandaC

Oops! That didn’t work out well for you did it :P Fear not, many of us felt the same way. At least I did, as I finished last in the match standings. The win by Vancouver propelled IslandLife to a big victory this match (more on that shortly) while AshMan77 and Mykvechkin (you got to cheer!) also had a good showing. chuckbiscuits 10/11 lineup led to them being the only person to predict an RSL victory in the top five. Sorry chuckbiscuits, MDS lives to fight another day! Just above chuckbiscuits this match was elcapitano2. You are right, they can’t lose this many in a row! Several of us tried to get a bit of a jump on the pack by predicting the first goal would NOT be from open play. That didn’t work...

GreyHouseEffect didn’t put in a prediction this match, while IslandLife and AshMan77 had big matches, so we have a substantial change in the overall standings. IslandLife has stretched out to a 10-point lead over AshMan77, GreyHouseEffect, and Isabelt. One little note, since our standings are usually broken up into 17-matches first and second half, since we are only doing one ‘season’ this year, I will likely change it to your worst three scores being dropped, since we will have substantially more than the 17 matches. Hopefully it doesn’t impact the standings too much as I would hate for someone to win one way but not the other.

On to LAFC! I don’t have much to say about this one. LOL...good luck!?!?!?

Of course, the first goal (of the match) contest is still in play: open, corner, free, own, penalty, no goals (0-0 final score)....I think that is all of them right. I’m tired.....
