Guess the Starting XI and Final Score (First Half Results)

We are more than halfway through the 2019 Major League Soccer season. That means that our First Half contest has drawn to a close. We have a winner! It was a lot closer than it was looking to be, at least after the first half hour or so of the Colorado Rapids match. However, the Vancouver Whitecaps pulled through and made our contest better. Because, that is what it is all about in the end right? Our contest?

I am (semi) pleased to announce the winner of our First Half contest....Island Life, who narrowly beat me out for the title. It was close, with Island Life beating me by ONE POINT! I had considered predicting 2-2 as a scoreline but elected to go with 1-1. In the end, that is what cost me the title! Isabelt finished third, with 197 points, while tecate (196) and edmondk (194) rounded out the top five.

In total, we had 37 people make at least one prediction. As is usually the case, I like to look at some of the statistics, as it is fun, so here are some of the key numbers from the contest.

When we factor in ALL points scored, AtlantisB had the most with 230. I guess a small victory there. Isabelt was second at 219 with Island Life third at 218. Of those who regularly put in a prediction, Isabelt had the best lineup prediction with an average of 9.53. Island Life was second at 9.44, while CascadiaCrunchFC and GreyHouseEffect were at 9.18.

However, for Island Life, it appears that they relied heavily on perfect lineups, scoring a high of EIGHT! The next closest was edmondk with five. This led to Island Life receiving 25 lineup bonus points, followed by Isabelt (18) and CascadiaCrunchFC (18).

AtlantisB was the best at predicting the winner, getting nine correct, while tecate (eight) and AshMan77/AmandaC (seven) were just behind.

Despite being good at predicting the winner, AtlantisB was fairly poor at score prediction, finishing a woeful 27th. Comparatively, Island Life and The Squirrel were the best, of regular participants, averaging 0.94 points (out of three) per match. Right behind them Airos (0.87) and hbamaral (0.82). AshMan77 rounded out the top five, with an average of 0.81.

Our final category to analyze is ‘Monthly Bonus’. Here, AtlantisB led the way with 14, followed by ZTJ9901 (13), CapsOnTheDrive (12), and edmondk (10).
