The Vancouver Whitecaps added some depth to their defensive line signing 2019 MLS SuperDraft 2nd round pick (35th overall) Brendan McDonough. The 22-year-old center back spent four years at Georgetown University, where he made 56 starts, scoring two goals and garnering two assists. Captain for his final two years at Georgetown, McDonough was named to the All-East Region second team and All-Big East Conference second team in his senior year.
McDonough made four appearances for Marc Dos Santos in the preseason and seemed to make a positive impression. With Khmiri still nursing a November surgery, McDonough will provide needed depth at center back when Henry and Cornelius are away later this month, and if anyone gets injured or suspended.
The contract is for the 2019 season with club options through 2022.
What are your thoughts on the depth signing? Did you see any of his play during the preseason?
