With the sad demise of WFC2 we’ve chose to replace our “last month with WFC2” reports with a general monthly report on the Whitecaps’ loanees. It being the American offseason January was a pretty quiet month but football is in full swing in Mexico and Honduras so there’s something to write about!
Bustos made his debut for CA Zacatepec in a humiliating 5-0 loss to Necaxa in the Mexican cup. Bustos played 45 minutes before being subbed at half time. Bustos also made a 7 minute cameo in a 1-0 loss to Murciélagos. The Zacatepec twitter account literally didn’t mention this but Bustos tweeted about making his Ascenso MX debut and according to Transfermarkt Bustos appeared for 7 minutes. Zacatepec’s website doesn’t list who played in their match reports, nor does it list substitutes which makes following what Bustos is doing kind of frustrating. I imagine his lower playing time is due to him still gaining match fitness but I don’t know that with certainty.
The Ghost man! Flores has been on loan to Motagua since 2016 and will stay there until this summer. But what’s he doing there? Well I have to be honest I don’t have a very firm idea. As far as I can tell Flores is yet to see the field in the Clasura section of the season. Motagua tweets out their starting XI but never tweets their subs bench and their live tweets of the game include such vivid descriptions as “we keep trying to score another goal!” Like Zacatepec their website doesn’t list who played or who was on the bench. They don’t list any kind of statistics period. Soccorway.com lists Flores as having made 13 appearances. How accurate is that source? No idea. A brief twitter search of his name seems to suggest he may be part of some kind of disturbance at the club but my Spanish isn’t good enough to figure out exactly what’s going on.
The players on loan to USL sides are all currently with their teams for preseason. This includes draft pick Corey Brown who is in training camp with Fresno.
