Report Card: Whitecaps vs Toronto F.C

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps at Toronto FC Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

Stefan Marinovic: 8/10

Had a couple of nervy moments but for the most part was excellent. Made some big stops to keep his team in the game, Something that’s been missing from the Whitecaps goalkeepers all year.

Jake Nerwinski: 8/10

Made 5 interceptions and 4 blocks. Also had a few good moments going forward.

Kendall Waston: 7/10

Made a lot of clearances and generally looked pretty solid. As always he did give the ball away quite a lot though.

Doneil Henry: 7/10

On the one hand he gave away a very silly penalty but he also had similarly impressive defensive stats to Nerwinski. 5 interceptions, 4 clearances, 1 blocked shot.

Brett Levis: 7/10

Defended quite well with 3 interceptions and 4 clearances. Levis wasn’t terribly noticeable, which he was probably glad for after his previous nightmare against Seattle.

Aly Ghazal: 6/10

He hardly gave the ball away with 91% passing accuracy. At the same time though those giveaways were, like, really bad. Defensively he made 2 tackles. All in all Ghazal was fine but nothing to write home about

Russel Teibert: 8/10

He scored a goal! It was 5 years and over 100 games ago when Russel Teibert last scored for the Vancouver Whitecaps. Teibert capped off a beautiful passing play from the Whitecaps which is something we haven’t seen much of this season. Teibert also got into some good positions against the L.A Galaxy. Perhaps Dalrymple has given him instructions to get forward more. Defensively (which, one would imagine is mostly what he’s out there for) Teibert was also quite good with 3 interceptions.

Brek Shea: 5/10

Brek Shea had a shot on target. That’s pretty much the only notable stat he had. He did however have a couple of nice interplays that bring his score up a little bit

Yordy Reyna: 9/10

Set up Teibert’s goal with a beautiful no look pass, was heavily involved in the second goal and got a guy sent off. Basically everything that was good going forward for the Whitecaps involved Reyna in some way.

Alphonso Davies: 5/10

Davies was a bit invisible this game. Didn’t complete any dribbles, though he was fouled twice, or make any key passes.

Kei Kamara: 8/10

Scored the winning goal (nothing to be sneezed at for a Whitecaps striker) but also worked very hard upfront winning 5 aerials and making 2 key passes.

Subs:

Jordon Mutch: 8/10

Assisted Kamara’s goal and had a 93% passing accuracy. It was a very effective sub appearance from Mutch.

Eric Hurtado: 4/10

Not a very effective outing from Hurtado. Frequently lost the ball and didn’t really create anything

Felipe: N/A

Felipe wasn’t on long enough to really make an impact but he did complete all of his passes so there is that.
