Are you, or someone you know, interested in writing about the Vancouver Whitecaps on a regular basis? With the 2018 season just around the corner, we are looking to bring on a few more volunteer writers.
We are seeking someone who is passionate about the Whitecaps and would be interested in helping get the news out about the team. This is a great opportunity for those who are wanting to get into the writing industry, and sports writing industry specifically. Many of our previous writers have gone on to work for various news media outlets around Vancouver.
Writers will be expected to be available to assist with covering Whitecaps matches. For those living in Vancouver, we can look at getting you into a few matches at BC Place to cover the team as a media personnel, as well as at some of the training sessions if you are interested. However, do not feel that you have to live in Vancouver to write for us. In fact, most of our staff do not currently reside in Vancouver (or even Canada for that matter).
In addition to assisting with match coverage, writers will be able to work on their own pieces, which appeal to their interests. Some of the topics our writers have covered previously are Supporters Culture, Game Statistics, Whitecaps Academy, Player Development, National Team, etc. The choice is yours as we want people to write on what they are passionate about. While not a ‘hard’ rule, as everyone is volunteering their time, we hope that you will write a personal interest piece, at least once every two weeks (although more regularly is preferred).
We have plenty of platforms for you to share your work, via Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit. We also have the SB Nation brand that can help with getting your writing broader visibility.
