The Alphonso Davies hype train cannot be derailed.

The 16 year old phenom scored to help the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Thursday night, sending the Whitecaps to the CONCACAF Champions League Semi-Finals.

Playing in the second leg of the series in Vancouver, the Whitecaps finished with a 3-1 aggregate victory after a 1-1 draw in New York in February.

The starting 11 saw David Ousted in net, with Jake Nerwinski, Kendall Waston, Tim Parker and Jordan Harvey in the backfield. Matias Laba and Russell Teibert took up shop in the defensive midfield, while Marcel De Jong, Davies, Kekuta Manneh, and newcomer Brek Shea made up the attack. Another new face, Fredy Montero, was available off the bench.

The Whitecaps had a dream start, with Davies bagging the opening goal just five minutes into the contest. Marcel De Jong took the ball on the left side while deep in the Red Bulls end, then centered the ball to Davies, who was waiting in the box. The kid took his time, before calmly sending the ball into the net.

The Red Bulls and Whitecaps would trade a few chances in the first half, but the next goal wouldn’t come until the second. Fredy Montero was brought in for De Jong in the 67th minute, and it didn’t take long for the new Whitecap to make an impression. In the 76th minute, Montero doubled the lead, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and blasting it past Luis Robles.

The Whitecaps will now turn their attention to the Champions League Semi-finals, as they will take on the Tigres UANL of the Mexican Liga MX. According to the Whitecaps ticket page, the first leg will happen in Mexico on March 14th. The second leg goes in Vancouver on April 5th.
