The Vancouver Whitecaps continued their pre-season in Portland on Sunday night, drawing with Real Salt Lake 1-1. The Whitecaps are playing in the Timbers pre-season tournament, which they kicked off with a 1-1 draw versus Minnesota FC on Thursday.

Head Coach Carl Robinson had plenty of new faces in the starting 11, most notably, Paolo Tornaghi in net for David Ousted. Newcomer Sheanon Williams made his first start at Right Back, with Marcel De Jong on the left side, and Christian Dean and Cole Seiler partnered at Center Back.

Andrew Jacobson retained his spot in the defensive midfield, while Russell Teibert subbed in for Matias Laba. The attack was comprised of Marco Bustos, Giles Barnes, Kekuta Manneh, and veteran Kyle Grieg. Barnes took the number 9 spot, while Grieg was the lone striker atop the formation.

The first half was pretty even-keeled, with both teams getting a small number of chances. The goals came in the second half, with the Whitecaps getting the party started. In the 70th minute, substitute Yordy Reyna took a ball from Alphonso Davies in the RSL box, made a quick move past the defender and then curled the shot off the right post and into the net.

It was a brilliant skill move from Reyna, who the Whitecaps are really hoping can contribute to the attack this year.

RSL would tie the match up in the 83rd minute when Jordan Allen was able to get behind the Whitecaps backline, and beat Tornaghi one on one.

The Whitecaps wrap up the tournament with a match against Portland on Wednesday.
