Looks like the Center Back Position just got a little less crowded in Vancouver. According to a media release from the Whitecaps, defender Christian Dean will miss the next three to four months, as he recovers from left foot surgery.
The 22 year old suffered the injury in training earlier this week, and underwent successful fifth metatarsal fracture surgery on Wednesday. Basically, metatarsal bones are long bones in the middle of the foot, and the fifth is on the outside of the foot.
It means the depth chart gets a little thinner, with Kendall Waston, Tim Parker, Pa Modou Kah, and rookie Cole Seiler remaining.
It's disappointing, as I'm sure many Whitecaps fans were hoping to get a longer look at Dean, and what the youngster could bring to the squad. Instead, it means he'll be playing catch-up all season long. Hopefully he can get better sooner rather than later, and re-join the squad with the same confidence he was exhibiting in the pre-season.
