WFC 2 Score Pre-Season Win Over UBC

The Whitecaps USL squad was in action on Saturday

The Vancouver Whitecaps USL affiliate, the creatively named WFC 2, opened their 2016 pre-season campaign with a victory, topping university squad UBC 2-0 at Thunderbird stadium on Saturday night. It's the first of eight pre-season matches for Vancouver, which will take them till mid-march.

While the WFC 2 game-day roster was mostly comprised of depth players and youngsters, a few notable Whitecap players did take to the pitch. Newcomer Christian Bolanos joined veteran Blas Perez, Pa Modou Kah, and Erik Hurtado, with Bolanos and Perez combining on the Whitecaps first goal.

In the 33rd minute, 15 year old (feel old and unaccomplished yet?) Alphonso Davies fed Perez, who found Bolanos on the wing. Bolanos would make no mistake in what was the only scoring play of the first half.

In the second, Head Coach Alan Koch subbed Bolanos off but kept Perez, Kah and Hurtado in the match until the 57th minute. It would be Ghanian midfielder Fatawu Safiu who would double the score though, on a bottom corner shot just over a minute into the second half. It was a lead the 'Caps would never relinquish, as they cruised to the 2-0 victory.

WFC 2 return to action on Thursday against Trinity Western University.
