In a surprise media release today Alan Koch has left his head coaching position at WFC2 to become assistant coach and director of scouting with FC Cincinnati. Koch recently lead WFC2 in only their second year to the USL Western Conference finals. Koch first joined the Whitecaps organization in 2009 as coach of the WFC Women’s team in the USL W-League and then spent seven years as head coach for the SFU men’s team. He rejoined the Whitecaps organization as a scout in 2014 and as head coach for WFC2’s USL debut. The new team struggled in its first season, but made impressive strides in its second.
Koch showed in a short time at the helm of WFC2 that he was an asset to the team and able to help young players transition into the professional ranks. I believe his talents will be missed in the organization.
