Vancouver Whitecaps Officially Re-Sign Cristian Techera

The bug will officially be back

Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Whitecaps have officially re-signed Cristian Techera to a multi-year contract after finalizing his transfer with Club Atlético River Plate Montevideo from Uruguay.

The club inked Techera using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), although the exact terms of the deal are not being released. TAM was introduced to MLS in July, and each team was given $100,000 for each of the next five years, for a total of $500,000. Clubs are allowed to use the money to re-sign players or sign new ones, but the player must make more than the minimum salary charge. In 2015, that was $436,250.

Techera scored seven goals in 21 starts and 26 total appearances for the Whitecaps in 2015, and also kicked in 5 helpers.
