FTBL Ep. 111 - Sports Marketing, Bolaños and the SuperDraft.

At From the Backline, we like to analyze the beautiful game from every possible angle. This week we are putting our suits on and we are chatting sports marketing and athlete branding with David Skilling. We also give our take on the newest Whitecap, Christian Bolaños and the SuperDraft. We also open the mailbag and answer your questions!

This week we take a look at football and sports in general from a different perspective.  As fans we're always talking about the latest match, or the next big signing.  But what happens behind the scenes for a professional athlete, especially one that is about to retire from the world of professional sports?

Joining us in Part 1 (1'-23') to answer this question and more is David Skilling.  David owns the London-based Sports Brand Management and PR firm "Six of 1".  David has appeared and been featured on various media outlets including TalkSport, BBC Sport, CNN and CBC discussing the topic of sports branding.  Some of David's clients are well-known athletes including Ashley McIvor Demerit and Jay DeMerit, Pa Modou Kah, Martin Rennie, five-time boxing heavy weight champion Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield and 1992 Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell.

In Part 2 (24'-55') Mark and Jorge discuss the latest Whitecaps news including our take on the latest Whitecaps signing, Christian Bolaños, the latest rounds of the MLS SuperDraft, and discuss James Bufton's latest article "Corner Boys" on FromTheBackline.com in which he discusses the young talent at the disposal of Whitecaps' manager Carl Robinson and their very bright future.
