Marco Bustos named to USL Team of the Week

Bustos' brace lifts WFC2 over the Tulsa Roughnecks for Thundercaps' first road victory since April.

Alan Koch and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 kicked off a month long road trip in Tulsa, OK this past Friday night in fine style beating the hometown Roughnecks by a score of three to one.

The Thundercaps were motivated to get a positive result on the after the Roughnecks embarrassed WFC2 by a score of four to nil at Thunderbird Stadium the previous week.

Vancouver got on the scoresheet early courtesy of midfielder Marco Bustos, who opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute.  Andre Lewis made a pass to the completely unmarked Bustos, who punished the home team for their slack marking.

In the thirty-second minute Lewis was in on the action once again when he passed the ball to striker Billy Schuler inside the Tulsa eighteen.  Schuler was fouled by a Roughneck defender and Bustos calmly stroked home the penalty kick to put WFC2 up by two.

The Roughnecks pulled one back in the fifty-first minute through Lucas Cordeiro, but the in-form Victor Blasco put the match beyond reach just a minute later to seal the victory for WFC2.

This morning USL announced that Bustos' two goal performance on Friday night had earned him a place in the USL Team of the Week for Week 20.

Congrats, Marco!

WFC2 are next in action on Saturday August 8th, when they travel to Seattle to play Sounders FC2 at Starfire at 7.30pm.
