Gershon Koffie Nominated for Goal of the Week

Was there any doubt? Koffie's first half blast is up for MLS Goal of the Week

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

It's not entirely surprising, but Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Gershon Koffie has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, for his first half strike against Real Salt Lake that blew the roof off BC Place.

Koffie is up against Sam Cronin (Rapids), Marco Pappa (Sounders), Pedro Ribeiro (Orlando City), and Harry Shipp (Fire), and you can check out all of the beautiful goals below.

Surpisingly, the other wonder goal from the match did not make the cut. Javier Morales scored a sterling free kick goal just before the half that was not recognized, although it did register an honorable mention on the MLS website.

Should Koffie win, this would be his first 'Goal of the Week' victory of the season.

Koffie has also been named to the MLS Team of the Week.

M: Gershon Koffie (Vancouver Whitecaps) - Marked his 100th MLS start on Saturday with a howitzer of a goal and an energetic box-to-box outing on both sides of the ball.
