According to elsiglo.com, the Vancouver Whitecaps are closing in on signing 33 year old Left Back Luis 'Coco' Henriquez, who is fresh off an 8 year stint with Lech Poznan in Poland. The rumor has also been reported by MLSSoccer.com.
Another Panamanian could be in the American football. This is the left back Luis 'Coco' Henriquez and his destiny would be the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Panamanian ended contract with Lech Poznan in Poland, which recently has just been crowned champion of Polish football again.
Sources close to the player confirmed this means that the 'Coco' wants to try new and Major League Soccer (MLS) would be one of them.
If the rumor is indeed true, it's a head scratching move for the Whitecaps. They already have a veteran LB in Jordan Harvey, who's proved himself to be a perfect depth option with Sam Adekugbe battling injury.
Unless the 'Caps are getting some aggressive offers from other clubs, Adekugbe would seem to be the long term solution at the position, so why would the club sign a 33 year old with no MLS experience? Pushing Adekugbe down the depth chart for an older player doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me.
In my opinion, it's not a move the Whitecaps need to make. Now, if they want to start bringing in some Center Backs, that's a different story.
