Octavio Rivero Nominated for Player of the Month

The MLS rookie is quickly making an impression in the league

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Octavio Rivero has been absolutely sublime for the Whitecaps so far this very early MLS season, scoring in three straight matches before that streak came to an end against the Portland Timbers over the weekend. No matter though, as Rivero could soon have a different accolade to add to his rapidly growing list; He's been nominated for MLS Player of the Month, for March.

Here's why he was nominated, according to

There was a little hype around this Uruguayan striker coming into the season. So far he has lived up to all of it. Rivero has led the line for the Whitecaps as they have captured wins in each of the last three games. The Designated Player has scored three goals in the Caps' four games, including late game-winners against Chicago and Orlando City.

He's up against some stiff competition, including the legendary Kaka (Orlando FC), Blas Perez (FC Dallas), reigining golden boot winner Bradley Wright-Philips (NYRB) and Center Back Ike Opara (SKC).

Voting is open until April 1st at 11:59 pm. Fly, my minions! Do Rivero and the Whitecaps proud!
