It seems that WFC2 like to make their signings in threes. Today, another trio was announced.
Mark Village, Sahil Sandhu and Victor Blasco are all coming into the fold from local Universities. Village, a 23 year old Goalkeeper from Abbotsford, BC, spent 5 seasons with the University of the Fraser Valley and backstopped the Cascades to their best ever season in 2013. Sandhu, a 24 year old midfielder, is a Vancouver Whitecaps FC residency graduate from Surrey, BC, and spent his last three seasons with Douglas College. Blasco, a 20 year old Barcelona native, is coming into the team straight out of his freshman year at Vancouver Island University, where he was sent out on loan from Simon Fraser University.
Victor Blasco is arguably the most intriguing of the three signings. He is the first international player to be signed by the ThunderCaps and spent his youth career in the Barcelona FC academy. Given WFC2's stringent roster rules, international spots are prized possessions, so Blasco may be under slightly more pressure to perform than his Canadian peers. However, if he can keep up the form that saw him win numerous PACWEST awards and score 12 goals in 13 games last year, the ThunderCaps could have a gem on their hands.
