There is officially some competition at the Left Back spot; After a very strong match against the Chicago Fire, Sam Adekugbe has been named to the MLS Team of the Week. While Octavio Rivero and Steven Beitashour snagged the headlines for combining on the Whitecaps late game winner, Adekugbe was recognized for a strong, competent match in which he looked very comfortable.
D: Sam Adekugbe (Vancouver Whitecaps) - His two blocks in the first half helped keep the Fire off the board as the Whitecaps won 1-0 in Bridgeview.
Unfortunately, the accolades come at the expense of Whitecaps veteran Jordan Harvey, who may have an extended stay further down the depth chart with Adekubge coming of age so quickly. That's a very nice problem to have for Head Coach Carl Robinson, as too much depth can never be a bad thing.
'Caps striker Octavio Rivero also got an honorable mention, as he was listed on the bench for the Team of the Week. Rivero has been as advertised for the Whitecaps, with 2 goals in his first 2 MLS matches.
