Steven Beitashour is officially the opposition. The Vancouver Whitecaps confirmed Friday the 28 year old defender had been shipped off to Toronto FC, in exchange for the clubs second highest second draft pick in the upcoming MLS Superdraft.
It means the Whitecaps have opened up his spot for some internal competition, but the Whitecaps could also go shopping for another defender if they feel the position needs a sizeable upgrade.
While Beitashour established himself as a very solid defender in his first season in Vancouver, he looked slower and overall less effective in his second go around in the blue and white. Given his relative youth and years of experience in MLS, I'd say he is a prime candidate for a bounce back season.
