If you're well into your Vancouver Whitecaps withdrawal, perhaps a dose of Canadian Soccer can cure what ails you. Yes, it might not carry the drama of a playoff match, but BC Place is getting ready to host Canada VS Honduras on Friday in World Cup Qualifying action.
It's two squads that definitely have some history, as I think pretty much every Canadian soccer fan remembers an 8-1 dismantling the Canadian suffered at the hands of the Hondurans back in 2012. It meant the Canadians were rejected in their bid to make the final round of World Cup Qualifying, something they had only needed a draw to do.
Now, the two sides will meet again as they attempt to quality for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, in the first of six qualifying matches the Canadian men will play in the next few months.
The Squad
The Canadian Squad includes a few members of the Vancouver Whitecaps, including Russell Teibert, Kianz Frose and Sam Adekugbe. MLS Rookie of the Year and Orlando City Forward Cyle Larin has also been included on the list, and team officials are obviously hoping he can bring a few more goals to the squad.
Other notable names include Will Johnson of the Timbers, veteran Julian de Guzman, and Atiba Hutchinson, who was part of that 8-1 debacle. Former Whitecaps Goalkeeping prospect Simon Thomas is also on the roster. You can see the full list here.
The boys won't get much rest, as they play El Salvador on the road on Tuesday. They do get a break after that though, as they won't play until March, when they have a home and home with Mexico.
Where can I watch?
