The Vancouver Whitecaps' 2015 season is by no means over, but in the spirit of Election Day we've decided to get our end of the season awards rolling a little early this year.

Over the next several days we'll be running a series of Fan Polls covering a wide range of topics including: the "Player of the Year" and the "Unsung Hero" awards, as well your opportunity to choose your Goal of the Year for both the MLS team and Whitecaps FC2.

Today we kick our awards series off with the Player of the Year, and there are plenty of good candidates for this award.  No one can dispute how valuable Matías Laba is to the Whitecaps, and how much he is missed when he is not on the pitch.  Last year Matías would have been a lock for the "Unsung Hero" award, but after another very good season, a season which included two clutch goals in Edmonton and Portland, Laba has to be in the conversation for the "Player of the Year" award this time round. In addition, David Ousted had another solid season in goal, and no one can overlook the attacking contributions from forwards Kekuta Manneh, Octavio Rivero, or Cristian Techera either.

Now it's your turn to weigh in on the conversation by casting your vote using the Fan Poll, or by adding a comment in the section below.  We'll discuss the results of this, and future polls, on this week's edition of From the Backline.

Next up: the "Unsung Hero" award.
