For the fourth year running the Vancouver Whitecaps will travel to the other side of the Salish Sea to play the University of Victoria Vikes men's soccer team. The annual friendly is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, February 15th at Centennial Stadium.
Tickets can be purchased online through the UVic Athletics department by clicking this link or at Centennial Stadium on match day.
The Whitecaps won the 2014 match 1-0, after Andre Lewis drove home an Omar Salgado cross in the dying moments of the match.
Sadly, Lewis, who was one of Vancouver's 2014 MLS SuperDraft picks, will probably be remembered more for his failed goal celebration than the goal itself. Still, we give the young Jamaican full marks for effort.
The annual Vikes-Caps friendly is a much anticipated event on the Island. Our own Rituro was at the match last year and prepared a special report for our podcast, From the Backline. Rituro spoke with Carl Robinson and Russell Teibert and he also explained how important the Caps-Vikes friendly is to Vancouver Island's soccer fans. You can listen to the report on the player below or click you can download it here on iTunes. The full report can be heard starting at the 18-minute mark on Episode 17.
