USL PRO Coming to the Royal City?

Whitecaps FC and the City of New Westminster to launch venture to bring a USL PRO franchise to the Royal City for 2015.

Vancouver, BC - the Vancouver Whitecaps announced this morning that they will be working with the City of New Westminster to bring a USL PRO franchise back to the Lower Mainland.

The proposed new franchise will be based at Queen's Park stadium, which will undergo a thorough redevelopment as part of the process.  The new team will be backed by the Whitecaps ownership group and will be co-owned and operated by local investors Ian Gillespie and Gary Pooni.  The Whitecaps' aim is to have everything in place before the USL PRO deadline of September 14th, 2014 with hopes of participating in the 2015 USL PRO season beginning in March 2015.

The Whitecaps competed in the old USL before the club made the move to MLS in 2011.  The old USL First Division folded after the 2010 season.
