Poll: Who Should Wear the Armband?

With Jay Demerit likely to miss six weeks, who should Carl Robinson give the honor to?

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

The 'Caps were hoping a bit more rest this season would keep Jay Demerit healthy, but a tendon tear will put the captain out of commission for likely six weeks. That's unfortunate for both the club and the player, which makes my following question pale in comparison. I mean, it's a minute point at best, but an interesting one; who do you think should wear the Captain's armband while Demerit is out?

In the past, it's been Kenny Miller. Miller was the obvious choice, given his lengthy professional career, his well respected status in the lockeroom, and the fact that he was still an important part of the team. With Miller now gone, Carl Robinson has a few different names he could choose from.

There's Nigel Reo-Coker, although his future with the club is in doubt, as are his minutes, when Steve Beitashour gets back from the World Cup. Pedro Morales has been as advertised, but has he been with the club long enough to rep the band? Russell Teibert wore it during the Canadian Championship, but is he too young to wear it in a regular MLS match?

Here's my pick; Andy O'Brien. Much like Miller, he's a veteran who's well liked in the locker room, and leads by example when out on the pitch. He's played a ton of minutes this season as well, so you would think that, barring injury, he's not going be switching that armband off frequently because of substitutions.

What do you think? Who should be the Whitecaps Captain until Jay Demerit returns?
