The Vancouver Whitecaps have announced the dual signing of midfielders/strikers Sebastián Fernández, 24, and Nicolás Mezquida, 22, from Uruguayan club Boston River.
Fernández will be joining the Caps on a one-year loan with a transfer option and Mezquida was acquired by a transfer. As per MLS and club policy terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Both players have spent the majority of their careers in South America thus far, but Mezquida has also enjoyed two loan spells in Norway.
Whitecaps Manager, Carl Robinson said that his new signings are "exciting young players with a lot of potential" and that they "are not afraid to attack defenders one-on-one with pace".
The addition of Fernández and Mezquida will be completed once the Whitecaps receive the player's International Transfer Certificates and Canadian immigration papers.
The Whitecaps are currently in Casa Grande, Arizona for pre-season training and will play NASL club Indy Eleven at 3:00PM PST this afternoon. The match will not be streamed live, but updates will be available through the club website www.whitecapsfc.com or via the club's official Twitter in-match update service.
