Preseason Scoreboard: Whitecaps FC 5 - 1 Portmore United

PORTLAND, OR - Despite falling behind midway through the opening half, the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated 10-man Portmore United 5-1 in their opening match of the Rose City Invitational tournament at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.  Fullback Jordan Harvey scored twice for the Blue and White, and both striker Darren Mattocks (1G, 2A) and midfielder Russell Teibert (1G, 1A) had multi-point performances.

Portmore United were reduced to 10 men after just fourteen minutes when goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett handled the ball outside the area, but despite this deficit it was the Jamaican side who opened the scoring through Ricardo Morris in the twenty-sixth minute.  The Caps equalized just five minutes later through newcomer Nicolás Mezquida.  By the time the match was over, Vancouver had scored four more goals through Harvey (2), Mattocks, and Russell Teibert.

The Whitecaps will next face San Jose Earthquakes in their second match of the Rose City Invitational this Wednesday afternoon at 5pm and will close out the tournament against the Portland Timbers on Saturday afternoon.
