There certainly has been no shortage of news surrounding the Vancouver Whitecaps in recent times. The offseason started with the announcement that the Whitecaps had finalized the deal with Toronto FC to keep MF Matías Laba here in Lotusland and, surprisingly to many fans, the transfer was completed with very little drama. Well, very little drama in the public realm at any rate.
Supporters were treated to another early Christmas present this past week when Nicolás Mezquida had signed a new contract and then Mauro Rosales, who was a key figure in the Caps' drive to the 2014 MLS playoffs, inked a deal to stay with the club saying that he "has unfinished business here in Vancouver."
Added to all of this are some of the delicious rumours swirling around out in Supporter Land regarding some possible new signings for the Whitecaps. The Roque Santa Cruz rumour, although not a necessarily a new one, has resurfaced in recent days suggesting that there is a La Liga MX club and an "unnamed" MLS club in the hunt to sign the former Manchester City and Bayern München front man.
Most tantalizingly of all the rumours out there at the moment is that Uruguayan striker Octavio Rivero has bid adieu to his O'Higgins FC teammates after signing with the Whitecaps. Can it be true? Until there is official news from the club we can only speculate and guess, but where there's smoke there's fire, right?
With Christmas just around the corner, and assuming we've all been very, very good supporters this year, we here at Eighty Six Forever would like to know what is on your Whitecaps FC Christmas wish list? We all know we want a decent striker (or two), but perhaps your Christmas wishes are a little more unorthodox? Perhaps you're like our colleague Rituro, who has been banging the Kendall Waston-Mezquida strike partnership drum for several months, or maybe you're hoping Zara will release their own line of Carl Robinson-inspired soccer sweaters for soccer supporters (yikes, that was a mouthful)? Maybe none of these are to your taste and you are instead hoping that Santa will lay down a lovely new grass pitch at BC Place for next season (yeah right!). Whatever it is, we would like to hear your ideas!
We are, afterall, in #OffseasonMode, so let's have a little fun as we patiently count the days until the new season kicks off...
