Twenty-two year old striker Octavio Rivero is bound to sign with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the upcoming 2015 MLS season according to reports coming from South America . The young Uruguayan currently plays for O'Higgins in the Chilean first division. Rivero scored 10 goals in the most recent Chilean season and finished second in the scoring race only two behind of the scoring champion, Esteban Paredes. With a previous team, Rentistas, Rivero was able to earn a berth to the Copa Sudamericana (the South American equivalent to the Europa League).
While it was speculated that Rivero was a target of Chilean powerhouse Universidad de Chile, it seems that the Whitecaps have become the frontrunners in landing the forward.
If you need some brushing up in your Chilean first division strikers scouting, here's a video with some of Rivero's highlights during his O'Higgins tenure.
Also, Rivero's nickname is "El Cabeza" or "The Head." Whether or not this rumour comes to fruition, it is exciting that there is at least some noise in South America regarding the Whitecaps and their possible targets for 2015.
