The Vancouver Whitecaps have officially announced the re-signing of Uruguayan midfielder Nicolas Mezquida, a deal the Whitecaps were no doubt very happy to make after not losing him in the recent MLS expansion draft. The conditions of the deal weren't released.
Mezquida provides the Whitecaps with a very decent depth option, and one that has shown potential to possibly bring more to the club. He may not see regular playing time in 2015, but he will no doubt be a popular option from the bench for Carl Robinson.
"We are excited to have Nicolás returning for his second season with the club," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "Nicolás is a very talented player, a fantastic teammate who brings a positive frame of mind, and he works exceptionally hard each and every day. We are confident Nicolás will excel and play an important part for us in 2015."
The 22 year old managed to chip in with two goals last season and was sparingly used in the starting 11, doing that just 4 times during the regular season.
Left on the Whitecaps off-season checklist include the veterans Mauro Rosales (Who opted out of the MLS Re-Entry Draft), Andy O'Brien, and Johnny Leveron. It's already been revealed fellow Uruguayan Sebastian Fernandez won't be back with the team next season.
