Fans of Nicolás Mezquida, Andy O'Brien and Mauro Rosales can breathe a little easier with the news that midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy was the only Whitecap picked in the MLS Expansion Draft earlier this morning.

Ballouchy, who was selected in the 6th round and 12th overall by New York City FC, started just three matches for the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2014 and played a total of just 297 minutes.  With the selection of Ballouchy, the Caps were then able to protect M/F Mezquida, who was placed on the Caps' unprotected list prior to the expansion draft.

Orlando City SC had the first pick in the draft and selected GK Donovan Ricketts from the Portland Timbers.  NYCFC used their first pick to select MF Ned Grabavoy from Real Salt Lake.
