The Vancouver Whitecaps clinched a berth in the 2015/16 CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) after the Montreal Impact and Toronto FC played to a 1-1 draw earlier today at BMO Field. In addition, the Whitecaps are guaranteed to finish the 2014 season as the highest ranked Canadian MLS team.
Due to a change in the scheduling for the 2015 Voyageur's Cup it was decided that the highest ranked Canadian MLS team at the end of the 2014 season would represent Canada in next season's CCL. Canada's representative for the the 2016/17 CCL will be determined in the traditional manner starting again next year.
The Whitecaps will be the highest seeded team in next year's Voyageur's Cup and will play the lowest remaining seed in the Cup semifinal series.
Am I the only one here who thinks it's a little ironic that the Caps finally qualified for the CCL with a little help from the Impact?
Je me souviens.
