As a site dedicated to all things Vancouver Whitecaps it may seem a little out of the ordinary to cover news of a transfer to a team other than the 'Caps, but the transfer of Clint Dempsey back to MLS deserves special attention. After days of speculation that Dempsey had joined the Seattle Sounders he was finally introduced to 40,000 fans at CenturyLink Field this evening.
Reports in the media the past few days have suggested that the Sounders were the only MLS club willing to pay Tottenham's $9-million transfer fee and the $24-million for Dempsey's contract (both would be MLS records). Dempsey has played the last seven seasons in England for Fulham and Tottenham. Before moving overseas, he played with the New England Revolution from 2004-06 and has been capped 99 times for the US Men's National Team with 35 goals to his credit.
