DeMerit to Resume Contract Talks

Negotiations were on hold during DeMerit's recovery from injury

Jeff Vinnick

The Whitecaps are set to resume contract talks with Jay DeMerit. The 33-year old defender and former US international injured his Achilles tendon early in the season opening match at home to Toronto FC. Bob Lenarduzzi announced the news this morning during a telephone interview and offered no further details other than negotiations were put on hold while DeMerit recovered from injury. When he was hurt it was speculated that DeMerit may not play again this season, but he recently announced that he aims to play in a competitive MLS match before his wedding on August 25th.

DeMerit was the club's first ever MLS signing and will receive $375,000 in guaranteed salary this year.
