'Caps Looking to Sign a New Defender?

Former Oxford United player Damian Batt training with the Whitecaps

Damian Batt was training with the team today during their open practice at Swangard Stadium. The 28-year old full back has played for lower league clubs in England and was most recently a member of League Two club Oxford United, whom he joined in 2009. Batt can play at right back and also at right midfield. According to the Vancouver Province's Marc Weber Batt played with Nigel Reo-Coker at Wimbledon when they were teenagers. Batt joins former residency product Adam Straith, who is another RB and was training with the team last week. It would appear that the team is starting to look for a replacement for Young-Pyo Lee who is certainly set to retire at the end of the year.

The club has not made any official announcement regarding the signing of Batt (or any other player for that matter) to a contract, however Batt tweeted this comment this past weekend (so please take it with a large pinch of salt):
