Following the news earlier this week that the Whitecaps would not be bringing fullback Greg Klazura back for the 2014 season the club announced additional roster moves this morning by picking up the option on 11 players players and declining the options of a further eight players.

This list of players that had their options picked up includes: Jordan Harvey, Gershon Koffie, Nigel Reo-Coker, Russell Teibert and Camilo Sanvezzo.

It was a bad day for the Whitecaps goalkeeping corps as the club released Joe Cannon, Brad Knighton and Simon Thomas.  Also released were Brad Rusin, Jun Marques DavidsonDaigo Kobayashi, Tommy Heinemann and Corey Hertzog.

In a statement posted on the Whitecaps' website, club president Bob Lenarduzzi said that "a significant amount of cap space" has been created for the new head coach who, among other things, will be responsible for deciding the future of Jay DeMerit and  "the areas we need to upgrade". As it stands, the club currently has 19 players under contract for the 2014 season.

The Whitecaps have been without a head coach since October 29th, when they announced that they would not be bringing Martin Rennie back in 2014 for a third season in charge.
