Monday Morning Centreback: Commentary on "Cracked Open" by Paul James

Monday Morning Centreback: Commentary on "Cracked Open" by Paul James

Highly recommended: Gregor Young at Monday Morning Centreback has written his notes on Paul James's Cracked Open, reviewed on this site late last week.

It's a great read for those who have the book and those thinking about getting it, providing a bit of context and analysis from somebody well-connected to the game (if you don't recognize Young's name, he's a former Vancouver 86er and long-time fixture in lower Mainland soccer who capped once for Canada). Read, as they say, the whole thing.

Your humble correspondent was on West Coast Soccer Weekly with Pierce Lang and Michael McColl talking about FC Edmonton, the MLS SuperDraft, and various obscenities they decided were so horrifying they actually hid the podcast in their Podbean stream and didn't advertise it on Canadian Soccer News.

I know. I swear, it's not actually that bad, although they did talk to two other people and I haven't listened to those bits yet.

Anyway, click the link at the top to listen. Also, I think I forgot to plug my first appearance on West Coast Soccer Weekly, where we talked about something (I was moderately drunk). That's here.

Camilo's unlikely to just jump: he's in the second year of a two-year contract with a further two-year club option. However, he certainly doesn't sound too happy.

With Jay Nolly's upcoming option declined, and his availability in the Re-Entry Process, many thought his days with the Whitecaps were over, as his salary was already very low. The updated list of players available in the REP has been updated by MLS today and it appears that Nolly, along with Joe Cannon and John Thorrington, have been removed from the list of available players.

It is my agent who knows an old coach (Teitur Thordarsson) in Vancouver. Then I've been interested in it and that is why it happened things.

That's the Google translation of a choice quote from an Aftonbladet article saying Swedish fourth-division defender Anton Hysen has been offered a contract by the Whitecaps.

Hysen turns 21 in two weeks and is best known for being Glenn Hysen's son as well as making a public announcement earlier this year about his homosexuality. The Swedish fourth division isn't exactly MLS quality; I'd rather have David Testo. But it's interesting that the Teitur Thordarson connection might still be sending players Vancouver's way.
