Looks like the Vancouver Whitecaps could be looking for someone else to wear the Captain's armband next season, as rumor has it that Jay DeMerit will retire at the end of the season. Now, the main source of the scuttlebutt was a tweet from Team 1040 personality Mike Martignago.
The season is still young, so we have plenty of time to decipher if this is true or not.
That being said, it may look like the best option available for Demerit. At 34, the CB already looks like he's lost half a step, and the club is taking no risks, resting him here and there. With Christian Dean and Johnny Leveron just waiting for their opportunity at the position, the club might want to get younger in 2015.
Of course, this is all just speculation, and the report has not been confirmed by the club or player.
