It looks like there is a strong chance that Kenny Miller will be leaving us in June. Is this a bad thing?
Kenny Miller was outstanding last season. He was at the core of our strike force, along side Camilo and the struggling Darren Mattocks and he redeemed himself beautifully from a struggling first season. THis year he has shown his utter class and quality at every turn. And as Mattocks has returned to form and Manneh has developed and as we have acquired Uruguayans who can play up top as well, we are not facing striker trouble.
Ever since he arrived in Vancouver, Kenny Miller has been linked with a return to Rangers where he will almost certainly finish up his career. It is really a question of time, and I think that time is now.
I have no doubt that Kenny wants to return home to play the last years of his career. Given that, the best time for him to go back is in time for the SPL season to start in August, it just makes sense for him to leave in June in order to get some rest, settle in in Glasgow and be fresh enough for the pre-season.
Kenny Miller has been a great and important part of the Whitecaps over the past three seasons. He is a fan favourite now and will be missed when he leaves.
But the truth is that the Caps are going to be fine without him and what should matter now is that he leaves with dignity and good wishes and honour (unlike He-Who_Must_Not-Be-Named).
His last home game wil actually be May 24 against Seattle. Vancouver is away for the whole month of June and return again to face Seattle on July 5. Perhaps he'll be in the building that night in a Whitecaps shirt, but I, for one, as a Kenny Miller fan hope that he is there wearing civvies, with suitcase in hand ready to receive a standing ovation and a tender send off. It's time for him to get to go home on his own terms.
