Who should get the armband on Saturday?

I'm surprised to hear this talk of Nigel Reo-Coker getting the armband for the Columbus match. Even Carl Valentine was hyping the possibility today on 1410.

I liked Nigel Reo-Coker's first 45 minutes as a Whitecap. But doesn't it strike you as a bit early to be appointing him team leader? There are guys on the team who could certainly fill the role, and who are much more experienced, notably Y.P. Lee, Joe Cannon, or even Andy O'Brien (and maybe Kenny Miller, maybe). These guys have anchored the team recently, know the league and the style of officiating and know what to expect from Columbus. They know Rennie well, and have a strong sense of what the manager will be expecting from the team, including in-match adjustments and set play tactics..

It seems a bit odd that NRC would come out as captain of a team he joined 10 days ago. Mostly I am keen to have the Whitecaps avoid some of the toxicity that LA went through with the Beckham-Donovan feud.

My thought is let him bed in a little, get a sense of the team dynamics and focus on his own play which will need to adjust to the MLS. He could make a great captain at some point, but give the armband to one of our more experienced guys and let him worry about creating in the midfield.
