Accentuate the Positive

What a great goal from Eric Hassli!

Obviously if it had been me taking that shot I would have probably placed it a little closer to the far post for a more heightened dramatic effect, but not everybody was blessed with my legendary footballing skills and it would be churlish to deny him his moment in the sun.

But what of the team as a whole?

I think it's fair to say that after the first three games in charge Tom Soehn is probably in credit when it comes to the results and performances; take away the dire effort against RSL and we are left with two decent points on the road against Chivas USA and the Seattle Sounders.

That doesn't mean that everything in the garden is rosy though, and there are still critics out there that question many of his tactical decisions. However here at poll headquarters we are not at home to "Mr Negativity" (although we are very much at home to "Mr Tired" and "Mr Emotional" ).

So this week's poll question asks;

"Which of the following of Tom Soehn's tactical choice are you most happy with?"

That's right. Even if you don't like any of them you have to select the one that you least abhor (think of it as being similar to choosing a life partner).

First though the results of last week's poll which asked how you viewed the Gold Cup. A massive 60% of you were only interested in how Canada performed, with only 16% of you scheduling your whole life around the happenings down South.

Now answer this week's question, and remember to think positive thoughts!

Making full use of Shea Salinas: not really a change.
Playing Camilo wide: FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Bringing Joe Cannon on for Jay Nolly: if they didn’t have different numbers I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart
Playing Akloul: actually a positive; Mouloud has way too much chaos in his game but his skill with the ball leaves him as a net gain.
Benching Teibert: I am going to wind up in prison for something if I even think about this.

You can guess where I voted.

I picked Salinas, but that’s not really a change. Honestly though, only two things really bug me about Soehn. First, his decision to flip his wingers at about the 65th minute every game, which always ruins any flow the team has. Second, the vast majority of his substitutions. Mind you part of the problem is that the ’Caps quality tanks after the first eleven, but why take of Chuiemiento and put on Vagneas? We completely conceded the mid after that because Koffie and Jeb had no one to pass to.

Soehn is definitely keener to keep Salinas on the pitch for longer than TT was. Maybe that was due to fitness but I still think Soehn sees him as much more of a permanent presence than Thordarson did.

I’m not a fan of Camilo on the left, but Soehn can legitimately argue that he has produced goals for the team from that position (others will argue that he has also cost the team dearly in other areas).

It’ll be interesting to see how popular the Cannon move proves to be because prior to the switch there was a subtantial number of fans calling for it.

I voted for Akloul because although he may not be as solid as some of the other options he’s got the pace to cover it up.

Would the guy who voted for “playing Camilo wide” please say hi at Empire Stadium so I can punch you in the testicles/ovaries?

Unless it was Tom Soehn. In which case you don’t have to introduce yourself but I’ll still punch you.

Even after that second Seattle goal, people still voted for Joe Cannon? Not saying Nolly would have stopped it, who knows, but to say it’s been an improvement is laughable.

I would be very sad if Teibert ends up on the WCFC scrap heap just because he came from a previous regime. I hope Soehn isn’t that petty, but we’ll see.
