Dunfield and the Gold Cup
Canada’s Roster for the Gold Cup came out today. Terry Dunfield is the only Whitecap on it. My feelings are a little mixed. I’m proud that we have ‘Caps player on the national team and this is deserved honour for Dunfield, but how will affect our Whitecaps? We have finally started to get a little continuity on the pitch will it all collapse without our midfield lynch pin? Or had Dunfield’s sub-par play in the last couple of games made him a candidate for the bench anyway?
While wee are on the topic of the Gold Cup, Canada has put together a pretty strong team. Can we get to the Quarters? Or is this the team to recreate the magic of 2000? I mean the have de Guzman and De Rosario, which the Toronto media has decided are the best Canadian players ever, how can they lose right?

Dunfield and our mids
Dunfield has been decent at times this season, but we need more than just hustle and bustle in the midfield. With him and Koffie we are all blood and guts. Brovsky adds a bit of creativity, but I agree with Chiumiento that we need more creativity in the middle of the park. I’m fine to have the opportunity to test other players in the midfield, except that our other players don’t add much creativity (Morfaw, etc). I would say it’s our one glaring weakness.

Not finishing? I thought we showed some good moves in our last game, but couldn’t finish them.
I do agree about the right side though, Salinas has speed, but no creativity. On the left both Teibert and Chiumiento are quite creative. Perhaps we need to get both of them on the pitch more often.

How about
1) The midfield is Salinas®, Koffie, Chiumento, Teibert (L) with Chiumento playing forward and Koffie more defensively.
Okay we may lose the defensive play of Dunsfield but then on the back 4 have , 3 back (Leathers , Akoul, DeMerrit) with Rochat playing a bit in front.
My problem with a 4-4-2 diamond is that we have enough trouble, sometimes, controlling the ball in the middle of the park as it is. Chiumiento isn’t a guy who goes out, gets the ball, and lugs it: he’s a guy who needs the ball given to him and will then do his best to dazzle his way into an opportunity. If Koffie’s carrying the water by himself, we’re going to have problems in possession.
