Last week I posted a poll asking Whitecap fans to choose their one wish for the season. Unsurprisingly the option of "It never rains on matchday" got drenched Vancouverites so excited that it immediately jumped to a huge lead garnering over 50% of the vote. Cooler heads gradually began to prevail however, and although the absence of water from the sky managed to hold on at the finish it closed with a less than convincing 32%.
Rain may be unpopular here in Vancouver but schadenfreude isn't, no that is not yet another signing from the Swiss league but the inevitable enjoyment that many of us would feel at seeing Sir David of Beckinghamshire score a last minute, game winning, own goal. 28% of you took pleasure in that thought.
Watching Seattle's players fall to the floor in frustration as the Whitecaps score a blatantly offside goal came in third (ballot stuffing from Portland fans has been alleged), and preventing the Timbers from getting to the playoffs by losing the last game of the season was in last place with a barely creditable 11% of the votes cast.
In fourth place was the desire to see BC Place host the MLS Cup. Either nobody wants the MLS Cup here or, more likely, nobody thinks that the Whitecaps will get to it this year anyway. MLS has clearly been listening because the rumours are that it will be held in Los Angeles anyway.
I'll post the final pre-season poll sometime tomorrow. Onwards and upwards!
