Whitecaps Need for a Holding Midfielder
Of the many problems the Whitecaps had this year, one position that was never filled was the midfielder that sits right in front of the defence who's job is to break down the other team's attacks and distribute.
I know Gershon Koffie is a fantastic player, but not only would it be a waste of his talent to play him there, it is not actually his real position. Koffie's job is to distribute and start attacks for the Caps and no, Tom Soehn, Peter Vagenas does not fit that description just because he is old and slow.
Many people liked to point at Jay DeMerit and everyone else who was on the backline, but I believe that it was much too easy for opposing teams to cut the Whitecaps open and leave the players on the back line exposed. Hopefully the first player the Whitecaps are looking for is a defensive minded midfielder instead of another friggin' left back like this Lee Young-Pyo character, who is no doubt a quality player, but at this moment not needed and will just be an expensive cap hit.

I voted right back because, except for Lee if he signs, the Whitecaps literally don’t have one. The top guy in the organization is a U-18 by the name of Declan Rodriguez. It’s him or Gershon Koffie and I don’t want to do that to Gersh.
As for defensive midfielders, we do at least have Bryce Alderson.

I have the same thought process as you, but I still voted defensive midfielder because I am pretty sure the Lee signing will be announced in the very near future.

It would ask alot of koffie and Alderson to be able to hold together the centre of the midfield. I think getting Alderson into the senior squad set up is a great idea, but it would be a bit detrimental to his development if the results are as bad as last year and his confidence takes a hit because of poor results. For me a best case scenario is we have two players that can play the holding midfield position, one of them being Alderson, and another player in this positon who could fill in for Alderson if he is struggling, or injured.
Looking at this team right now I agree that the two major gaps are right back, and holding midfield. And I am sick of seeing stop gap players like Thorrington play out of positon.
I really worry about the Caps this year to me Montreal more prepared to compete in this league
than we do. They are filling positions on their roster that they need to be filled. We can not have more experimental projects i.e Brovsky right back, Thorrington same position, Rochat central midfield.
I have little faith in any company/team who puts a bean counter as CEO (I left a company in 2010 who did that in 2008 and they got their ass kicked by Apple and Android) fired the ceo too late. AND any team (or local grocery store for that matter) that continues to enploy Tommy Soehn. I have prepared myself mentally for finishing behind montreal next season.

Do we want to spend a DP spot on him, and also at that cap hit?

I’m not sure how good he will be in MLS, but the top ranked player in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft is a versatile player named Andrew Wenger, whose primary position is holding mid. With him, Koffie and Alderson, I think our CM should be pretty good.
PS – I expect MTL to take a forward with the 1st ovr pick.
